A Third Baby Born at Home on New Year's Day

There was no better way to start off 2023 than attending the birth of a repeat client. I was lucky enough to start off New Year’s day attending TWO births of TWO repeat clients. It was cold and frigid in Denver - as it’s been what feels like this entire season - and yet my heart felt so warm as I watched two of my favorite families welcome new babies into the world.

Even better - there was no overlap. I even had time to drive home, pick up Chipotle for dinner, eat with my family, and put my kiddos to sleep before heading to the second birth.

I’m sharing one of those births with you today.

Sarah and I met back when Baby + Co was a birth center here in Denver. We both had our second babies at the birth center, and I had the absolute joy of documenting her birth there. When I found out Sarah was planning a homebirth for her third…I was so happy for her. Sarah is one of those people that births with layers of support from her family. And they are INCREDIBLE. They were there for her last birth…and then planned on being there for this birth as well.

Sarah also births rather quickly or efficiently. It was no different this time around. I arrived and we were still able to chat in between contractions, but I think we could all tell that her baby was close. And sure enough…within about 20 minutes of my arrival, we all KNEW baby was coming very soon. Her midwife was Dia Ingalls - who I adore - and the house was full of laughter, sisters, cousins, children, warm food, and complete awe and wonder as Sarah so gracefully eased her baby into the world.

They didn’t know the sex of the baby either…so imagine everyone’s surprise when they found out after two girls…this baby was a boy!

Such a beautiful birth to be part of…and such a joy to watch families grow over the years.
