The Birth of Chloe
Brittney is a fellow Denver photographer, and I was ecstatic when she reached out about me documenting the birth of her 2nd baby. I LOVE working with fellow photographers, but the pressure is always a little more intense when you’re documenting their birth stories. Luckily for me, Brittney is one of the sweetest and most generous women I’ve met in the photography community here. She was so excited to have me there for her second baby’s birth story.
Due in early January, Brittney scheduled an induction for the 4th. She was given a medication to soften her cervix with the plan to start Pitocin in the morning if contractions didn’t start on their own. Sure enough after just a few hours, I got a text message that contractions had started but weren’t terribly strong. She told me to wait until the next check at 4am and she’d update me with her progress. When her husband called me just a little bit later instead…I knew we would have a baby soon! I hopped in my car and drove to Skyridge Medical Center, where I had the immense honor of meeting Brittney’s family. Brittney’s older daughter was sleeping in her daddy’s arms when I first saw them.
Even though Brittney had asked for an epidural, it was evident that things were moving very quickly. She was still able to sense each contraction when it came…making me think we were very very close. Sure enough, within just an hour or so, she started feeling immense pressure, and it was time for Chloe to be born! Brittney pushed quickly and effectively, reaching down to grab her own baby and bring her up into her arms. There was so much love and joy in the room (and big sister woke up just in time to watch her little sister come into the world).
