The Birth of Max at Mountain Midwifery Center
Since bringing on Rebecca as a partner photographer, we've had the honor of working together to capture many birth stories. We loved working together to capture Max's birth story at Mountain Midwifery Center. MMC is Denver's oldest birth center, and we're always so excited when we get to document a birth there. Shannon's water broke on a beautiful rainy summer night and after a couple hours of laboring at home, they left for the birth center. When they arrived, Shannon was already 8cm dilated. I raced over to MMC to make sure someone was nearby in case baby came quickly and Rebecca met me over there about 30 minutes later. (I had been up all night at a birth so Rebecca stayed with Shannon and I went home to get some much needed sleep).
Over the next couple of hours, Shannon and her partner, Christopher, danced and laughed together as she labored to bring her baby earth-side (they had EXCELLENT music choices for their birth play list). You can just see the love and passion emanating from each of these photos. Before long, Shannon began pushing in the water and sweet baby Max came bursting into the world. I love the sequence of shots where he emerges out of the water and into Shannon's arms. Soon, the three of them were snuggled into bed...and big brother came to meet his baby brother just before Rebecca left to go home. His smile says it all! Such a joyful and life-giving night! I then had the honor of visiting them the next week for a lifestyle newborn session at their home.
We were so honored to tell their story. There is nothing more powerful than watching a family open their hearts to welcome another little human into the world.
