The Birth of baby Luna
Oh little Luna...you came into the world so swiftly, so peacefully, so beautifully. Your name is a perfect reflection of your birth story!
Felicia and Sheldon invited me to photograph their second birth. I love home births for many reasons, but one of my favorites is that it allows birthing families to make their birth space entirely their own. When I walked into Felicia and Sheldon's home, I found twinkly lights, beautiful flowers, and a loving network of support surrounding Felicia. She still didn't believe she was in super active labor, but because I lived all the way in Denver (and they lived in Colorado Springs) I'd decided to drive down early just to be safe. Within just 30 minutes of my arrival, it became very apparent that Felicia WAS in active labor. Her contractions came on strong, coming every 3 minutes, and then every 2 minutes. I ended up being the one who called her midwife (my dear friend Jolene) because I could sense that baby would be here very soon. Sure enough, Felicia began to feel intense pressure and we encouraged her to climb into the birth tub as we waited for Jolene and her team to arrive. As often happens, Felicia's body began to push involuntarily. We were so excited as we began to see the top of little Luna's head! Within just a few more minutes, Jolene walked through the front door and helped Felicia gently birth her sweet baby into the world. Everyone was overwhelmed with joy and love when we saw that sweet little face emerge from the water. Felicia and Sheldon were surrounded by Felicia's mom and her sister. There was enough love to stretch up to the moon and all the way back down to their sweet home.
