Third Birth at Mountain Midwifery Center
One of my favorite things about my job is when I find out old clients are expecting another baby again. I LOVE working with families for the second, third, and even fourth time.
Kate hired me as her doula and photographer for her first birth, and I’ve had the JOY of being with them for their second and third births as well. Kate and Ben did the Peace Corps before setting in Denver, and as someone who has also spent a lot of time overseas…I connected to them instantly. They are some of the kindest and most down-to-earth people I know. They were open to each of their birth experiences - on one hand Kate had a deep sense of what she wanted her birth to look like but on the other hand, she knew that birth is often mysterious and leads us down a different path.
Each of Kate’s births demonstrated both her strength and grace. Her first - an unmedicated hospital birth that went quicker than any of us expected. Her second - an unmedicated birth center birth that took longer than any of us expected. And then her third birth - this birth - another unmedicated birth center birth at Mountain Midwifery Center.
Each time, Kate and Ben wait until birth to find out the sex of their babies. Kate had been almost certain she was having another girl because her pregnancy felt so similar to that of her daughter’s…but when they looked down…they found out they had another boy. I love reaction photos (and there’s a great one in this sequence). Maybe some day I’ll have the patience to wait myself!
