Breastfeeding Week 2016

We'll be welcoming our second baby any day now, and I can't wait to breastfeed a newborn again. I've breastfed my older daughter for three years now, but mamas know that nursing a toddler is VERY different than nursing a new baby. As a birth photographer here in Denver, I'm often asked to capture the very first time a mom and baby breastfeed. That first latch can be magical, frustrating, scary, beautiful...the list goes on and on. I think many first-time moms don't realize that breastfeeding requires learning on both mom AND baby's part. And while that first latch is wonderful, it often requires a bit of work to get into the breastfeeding groove. As a birth photographer with a wide variety of clients, I also firmly believe that no matter how you nourish your babies...the act of feeding is beautiful. These images capture the beginning of a breastfeeding bond, but many wonderful mamas nurture their babies with a bottle too.
