Denver Birth Photographer - the Speedy Birth of Baby Elan
Births rarely go as planned...but sometimes birth plans go completely out the window. Elan's birth was far different than anything we could have expected...but it was exactly how he was supposed to come into the world. I knew Jenn from college, and I was honored when she asked me to photograph the birth of their third baby. Her first two births had been fast and furious, and so she anticipated that this third baby would come with a fury too. Jenn planned to deliver at Mountain Midwifery Center in Denver, where she had given birth to her two older boys. I only live about ten minutes away from the birth center, so I had no doubt I could make it...but Jenn lived in Castle Rock, making the birth center at least a 30 minute drive. On the day Elan was born, Jenn was having intense but sporadic contractions throughout the day. They weren't close enough to prompt them to leave the house...but we all knew baby was probably near. When her labor finally shifted, contractions came on fast and hard. They made it to the car and sped to Denver, but it soon became apparent that Jenn's baby boy wasn't going to wait for the birth center. Jenn delivered her sweet boy on I-25, as her husband attempted to make it over to the median. Her doula and I got the text message from dad saying baby was here, and we met them over at Swedish Medical Center. These photos are what followed. Without a doubt, it was a whirlwind birth...but Jenn was so strong and present for her baby.
