Denver Birth Photographer: the Unmedicated and Healing Birth of Baby Tyler
Erika and I connected via facebook. I instantly was drawn to her positive spirit...and her excitement for her second birth. Erika's birth had gone differently than she had hoped, and she wanted a very different experience with her second. She had done SO much amazing research and had learned how to advocate for herself in a hospital setting.
And then, like many smart women do, she built an amazing team around her. Her doula, her midwife, and her husband were incredible and invaluable players in her birth day. It was a beautiful thing to watch and capture...to see her wishes and desires play out just like she had wanted them to.
Erika wanted to labor at home as long as possible and so her doula and I met her in the comfort of her own home. When she started to feel the urge push we knew it was time to get to the hospital. Erika later confessed that she was nervous when we arrived at the hospital. She was afraid she would only be a few centimeters dilated. Well, she was pleasantly surprised when the nurse told her she was 8 centimeters and baby was coming soon!
She labored beautifully, peacefully, and with such strength. Her midwife respected her wishes and helped her achieve the birth she had been dreaming of. Baby Tyler was born and placed immediately on Erika's chest...and he latched to breastfeed right away.
This was such a powerful birth to photograph. Thank you for letting me capture your birth day Erika!
