A peaceful, unmedicated birth at Avista Hospital
Laura is an incredible labor and delivery nurse…who not only provides her patients incredible care and love, but also teaches thousands of people about birth through her instagram account. Her experience in the hospital coupled with her passion for unmedicated birth gives her followers such a unique and important perspective about what birth can look like in the hospital space. She hired us to document the arrival of her third baby, and we were so honored to be invited into the hospital she both works and births at. Avista Adventist hospital is truly one of the best hospitals for Labor & Delivery in our state. The midwife team at Avista Women’s care is exceptional, to say the least. They truly support and encourage physiological birth (and are one of the best options for twin parents desiring an unmedicated birth). Denver, Boulder, and Colorado is lucky to have them!
Laura had a history of fast labors, so we were on high alert as her due date drew closer. She texted us that surges had begun…and we knew it wouldn’t be long until she needed one of us.
I was in the midst of recovering from a molar pregnancy and so D&C so my partner Rebecca joined Laura and her sweet husband, Kelvin, at Avista once it was time. Laura labored on the floor, she listened to her body, she read birth affirmations…and not long after arrival…her baby was in her arms. Kelvin got to deliver their baby…and announce “it’s a boy!” - it was such a joyful surprise.
You can see some of the beautiful images Rebecca took, as well as an edited (PG version) of her birth film below.
