Birth Center of Boulder Birth Story - Welcome Judah
The Birth Center of Boulder (BCOB) holds a special place in my heart. I’ve attended so many beautiful births there over the past five years…and I always get excited when I learn that one of my clients is going to have their baby with the BCOB midwives. When you walk into the space, you feel grounded. From the colorful rugs to the beautiful tapestries to the ‘book of days’ that sits on the shelf…it all reminds me to slow down, breathe in, and marvel at the miracles that are quietly (or loudly) unfolding.
Rachel and James were expecting their 4th baby this past summer. I always love seeing and working with bigger families (because it makes me think that maybe we could have one more of our own!) Rachel and James were no exception. They were beautifully connected to each other…and to the special, unique little being they were bringing into the world. When I arrived, they were settling into the room. Rachel had brought a collection of birth affirmations…and she leaned into each wave as it came. We walked outside, we returned to the room, we got into the tub.
Rachel began to feel the urge to push and we encouraged her to lean into that feeling. Her baby’s head came out…and then there was a minute where we weren’t sure how quickly or easily her baby’s body would follow. Everyone in the room remained so calm, and suggested a quick position change to see if we could work baby’s shoulders out. Sure enough - it worked. And out came baby Judah. They didn’t know if they were having a boy or a girl - and with three girls already at home - it was such a fun surprise when they realized they had a son.
